I didn't know that we have better chances on the special opp hunts though. I learn something new everyday :)

Thanks mossyoakpro!
If I was a resident I would be hunting these special op hunts every year!!! I know some resident guys who have drawn them with just 1 $5 entry!! I would be applying every year to the Fisheating Creek WMA....that is the mecca of Florida birds!!

Good luck and stay safe in your travels!!
Next year it's on! When do I apply for a special opp hunt?
October or November if I am not mistaken...it has been a little while since I put in, I have a buddy headed to Dexter this year, he got drawn as a non resident on the first hunt with one $5 entry!! Told him he needed to play the lottery!

Regular Quota Hunt Permits are not transferable! I think the Special Opportunity Hunts are still transferable due to the fact that you have to pay a fee to get the permit (usually $175). The Special Opportunity Hunts are a real success story! Low Hunter Pressure, high critter count, limited access and limited hunts which all add.up to a quality hunting experience! I think out of state hunters are limited to 10% of the of the available permits for each hunt!

Don't overlook the Big Bend area WMA's. Lots of turkeys for those willing to walk a little.

The system is getting harder and harder to obtain these permits .. They need to revisit the rules and regs once again to adjust some of these new changes that were implemented a couple years ago.. I think you have a better chance as an out of state res with special opps cause they only allow 10 % of non res receive tags if not many apply your odds go up ..
